“ Registration Deadline Extended to May 31, 2009”
Dear School Principals,
As you are aware, the Temiskaming International Plowing Match (IPM) is coming to Earlton September 22 to
September 26, 2009. This huge outdoor agricultural show will feature a tented city covering 65 acres with
displays and demonstrations pertaining to all aspects of agriculture and country living. This is the first
event of this kind in Northern Ontario. As a result, this IPM will be different than the others in that there
will be displays unique to the North such as those explaining our forestry and mining heritage. This will also
be the first bilingual IPM ever held.
The IPM Education Committee is busy preparing and co-ordinating a wide variety of educational displays and
experiences for the youth in our area. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of our students
and their families who have never seen an event of this magnitude. There are going to be many varied learning
opportunities for students and we encourage all of the surrounding schools to participate.
Please review the enclosed brochure and refer to our website www.plowingmatch.org for further information.
There you will find more detailed information regarding the educational opportunities at the IPM, as well as
curriculum links, fun projects to do and registration information. We encourage you to share this information
with your staff and school council in an effort to promote this worthwhile event.
Please find enclosed a sample registration form for your information. Registration must be done on-line.
Schools from Kirkland Lake to Temagami will be eligible for a subsidy from local charitable foundations. In
order to be eligible for subsidies schools must register by April 30th, 2009. Detailed teacher information
packages will be sent to each school for school start-up to allow for further planning by teachers. There
will be various activities to help familiarize students with the IPM. The information for these activities
will be sent to schools in the near future.
Representatives from the Education Committee are willing to come to your school to meet with your staff to
explain what the IPM has to offer for students. Please contact us if you would like us to come to your school
or if you require any further information. We are confident that the IPM will be an incredibly rich learning
experience for students and staff alike and encourage you to make every effort to attend next September.
Yours in Education,
Susi Johanson
